A recurring theme that appears in threads here is advising people to come out when they are "ready." It's good advice as far as it goes. What has been on my mind is how people make themselves ready.
My own case is not entirely helpful. I came out in the 70's because an angry lesbian was going to out me to my family. Its a long story, but there came a point where I felt she would out me - to hurt a member of my family and by extension me. Therefore I screwed up the courage to go home...
